THE EXISTENCE OF IMPORT CLOTHES IN BANDUNG

Bandung is one of the cities that is famous with fashion style. Many people said that the clothes from Bandung are cheaper and more fashionable. One of the things that I like from Bandung is about the import clothes; actually, it is not the brand new clothes but the clothes that have already worn. This kind of clothes is popular with the name “Cimall”. The clothes from Cimall are brought from abroad, such as Japan, Korea and China. Formerly, the existence of Cimall in Bandung is very apprehensive, because the sellers do not have a certain place to sell it stuffs. Now, the sellers of cimall might be happy because they have been given a place by the government to sell their stuffs. The moving of Cimall place from Tegal lega to the wider place; Gede bage give a proof that cimol is liked by many people in Bandung. Moreover, the demand of the Cimall clothes is rise from year to year, as I read from “Pikiran Rakyat”.

There are many reasons why people buy clothes from Cimall, the clothes from cimall is cheaper if we compared to the brand new clothes that sell in mall, supermarket or even shop. For the example a branded jeans which if we buy it in supermarket, it can reach Rp500.000, but in cimol, it can cost Rp200.000, but I think it is not the main reason why people buy a clothes from Cimall. For me, clothes from cimall give self-satisfaction. Besides of its cheaper, we can see many choices if we buy a clothes from cimall, from old school until Hip hop style is available here, so for everybody who always want to be different in style, Cimall is the one place that is deserve to be considered. The T-shirt from cimall is more comfortable (although it is very tight) if compared to the t-shirt from supermarket or even clothing shop.

The advantages as the effect of the cimall that are give the job to the jobless people and give the chance to the people to sell something such as soft drink, snack, and etcetera, as the necessary of the consumers and producers of cimall.

The disadvantages from the presence of the cimall that is can reduce the income of the common clothes sellers because of the competition in getting the consumer. Some people still sell their cimall clothes in the sides of the street in Bandung city that can damage the sight seeing. Considering cimall clothes as the clothes that have already worn, so many country will consider Indonesia as the lower country, because its citizen wear the clothes that has been considered as a garbage in other countries.

There are the advantages and the disadvantages that is caused by the presence of the Cimall in Bandung so, it is difficult to erase this market because it concerns with the many people. The government should filter the clothes that is taken to Indonesia by the merchant because not all of the clothes is deserve to be worn. See Second Hand Cloth.

Love is one thing that remains a mystery in our life. It is among the secrets of the nature that we still cannot discover the true meaning. Love is an act of caring to other people in many different ways, according to public opinion. There are many kinds of love, love to our parents, to our friends, to our relatives, to our children, to our love one, etc. They all show our affection to other people.

No one can explain better about love than teenagers, which are going mature or becoming adult and experience love for the first time in their live. It is the time when they get to know and curious about their opposite sex. Their thoughts about love are pushed by their hormones. Their definition about love and the kinds of love are various.

First love for teenagers is the love that never dies, they said. Puppy love is what happens when very young people are in love and they know nothing at all about love. It is just a child’s play. Love at first sight is one marvelous experience happens to a person anytime anywhere. Among all, true love is considered the greatest. The story about true love as in Romeo and Juliet, Beauty and The Beast, and Rama and Shinta are fine example of the power of love.

We have watched many movies, read many stories, heard many stories about love. Never do we have not drowned along the story. We have always got carried away with the story. We cry and laugh along the story of love. Then what is love? Who can explain about love? Will love be still a mystery for us? Many professors and scientists have confused about this term. The Squire's Tales

Short Summary
The squire tells the tale of Cambyuskan, the king of Sarai in Tartary. With his wife Elphita, he has two sons, Algarsyp and Cambalo, and a daughter Canacee. The squire;s tale begins with a mysterious knight arriving at the court of Tartary,while cambyous’s great feast is on with his knights. The knight gives king Cambyuskan a mechanical horse that can transport him anywhere and return him in a day. Cambyuskan’s daughter, canacee is given a mirror that can determine the character of friends or foes, a ring that enables the wearer to understand the language of animal and any bird and healing properties of all herbs. He also offers a sword whose edge can cure any wound.

One day Canacee get asleep until late. She dreams of the mirror and the ring. She goes out walking that morning with her maids. She come across bleeding Peregnine falcon that is crying anguisly. Canacee pick up the falcon and spoke to it. The falcon tells her a tale of a handsome tercelet that fell in love with a kite as well as with the falcon, buth cannot choose between the two. Canacee heals the bird with herbs. Then the tale returns to king cambyuskan but the tale ends.

Analysis
The Squire’s tale is not complete or finish unclearly, so I find it is difficult to determine certain aspects of the tale. I assume its tale as a fragment because Chaucer did not finish its tale or because the later section of the tale was lost in the manuscripts from which The Canterbury Tales were taken, considering when chaucer wrote his works, printing device had yet to be invented.

Actually the tale divided into three parts:
Part 1.
In Tartary, king Cambuskan holds his birthday feast. At the third course a knight gives four gifts from the king of Arabia and India a mechanical brass steed, a magic mirror, a ring that enables its wearer to understand the language of the birds, and a sword that will cure any wound. The ring and mirror are gifts for Canacee.

Part 2.
Canacee finds a wounded falcon, regreting her sad lot. Canacee, whose ring allows her to understand the bird, hears the story of her betrayal by a false lover.

Part 3.
Return to king Cambyuskan and Here the poem ends.
Because the Squire’s tale exist only in a fragmented form, so its story only gives minor indication either in structure or in theme. According to Samekto The things that appear in Chaucer’s poem is realism. Until that time English literature usually tales about the hero or the incredible people which concerns with the fantasy (Samekto,1998:10).

Actually, I agree with Samekto’s statements above, although I do not know exactly about realism. I assume the Squire’s Tale is an adventure with elements of fantasy. The presence of magic mirror, a ring that allows the wearer to know the language of animals and a sword that can cure any wound, gine a sign that the story contains of elements of fantasy. Furtermore, a mysterious knight gives the ring and the mirror to a little daughter, canacee, As I know, a kid or even a teenager is the nearest level of age who always think about a fantasy, a fairy tale.
Talk about the elements of fantasy, it is similar to the Knight’s tale but with less of elements of magic. Although the tale brings a lot of magic stuffs but I assume the genre of this tale as a romance tale because the tone about love, actually a bird who has been rejected in love seems the nucleus of this story. There are a hedgepodge of plotlines that the story could follow, including the mysterious knight, the mechanical horse and the injured falcon.

LORD ULLIN”S DAUGHTER

In the middle of the night, the chief of Ulva’s isle, accompanied with his bonny bird lady, Lord Ullin’s daughter is in a hurry to cross the ferry. He asks the boatman to cross him and his lover despite the water, the stormy sea, the wind and the wild night.

The chief says that Lord Ullin does not agree with their love, the love of the chief and Lord Ullin’s daughter. So he takes her away. Lord Ullin chases the chief with the help from many equestrians and armed too. Listening the story, the boatman agrees to cross them over. “Not for money”, the boatman says. It is because the beauty and the charm of the of Lord Ullin’s daughter that the boatman would cross them over.

now Lord Ullin and his men are near, they have already on their way. Lord Ullin’s daughter now urges the boatman to be hurry eventhough they are going through the storm. She does not want to be chased and captured by his angry father.

Reaching the shore, Lord Ullin’s anger turns to regret as he watches her daughter and her lover go to the raging storm. Lord Ullin will forgive her daughter and the chief if they comeback. Lord Ullin’s daughter prefers the stormy sea rather than facing her angry father. Then there he was, Lord Ullin, cannot do anything. Sadly, he can only see her daughter on the deadly storm.

LOCHINVAR

It told about a hero whose name was Lochinvar. People said that he came from the west. The horse that he rode was the best in all places. Traveling alone and unarmed was his habits. Nothing could ever stop him. Neither high mountains nor cold rivers could ever stop his purpose. He was a lover and a warrior, a fearless warrior. There was never a man could match the young Lochinvar.

Lochinvar stopped only in one place, Netherby. There, the lovely Ellen, his lover was to wed another man, a man who was not in war like Lochinvar. Lochinvar bravely entered the Netherby hall, full of people. The bride’s father, with a sword on his hand, was among those people. The father asked Lochinvar whether he came to destroy or to join the party, but Lochinvar said no word.

Later then Lochinvar disapprovingly replied. The bride’s father had refused his love to Ellen despite the young Lochinvar was wanted by every women in Scotland. The bride kissed the glass and Lochinvar took it drank the wine and threw the glass. Lochinvar looked at Ellen and held her hand, took a deep breath and asked her to go with him. Ellen seemed to happy and joined him. The father and the mother were angry at what they saw. They sent men to after Lochinvar and Ellen when they both ran from the hall. The men chased them for long time but result nothing. Lochinvar and Ellen had gone for their love. Ellen’s cousins said that they were a perfect couple.

DEATH SEEN FROM EMILY DICKINSON AND VIRGINIA WOOLF’S POINT OF VIEWS

Many people maybe will be scared if they hear about the death issue, remembering it will happen to all the people in the world. Death is the main theme that often to be spoken in modern British literature period, actually in 20th century. As two of many authors of this period, Emily Dickinson and Virginia Woolf often bring death issues as their works. As the Death is the main theme that often to be spoken, Dickinson writes down her works in a form of poem, while Woolf sends her works in a form of novel. Although both of them bring the same issue that is death, but they have different point of views in seeing the death.

Emily Dickinson is a prolific poet. Her poems “because I could not stop for death”, “I heard a fly-buzz when I died” and “I felt a funeral in my brain” all deal with one of life’s few certainties, death. Different from the most popular views of death being brutal and cruel, Dickinson makes death seem passive and easy. “Because I Could Not Stop For Death” is one of Dickinson’s most discussed and famous poem due to its ambiguous and unique view on popular subject of death. Her though, Because I could not stop for death, he kindly stopped for me…, through that sentence I assume that she considers death as something that is inevitable and natural.

Virginia Woolf is a novelist and critic. Through her work “Mrs. Dalloway”, we can see her view about the death, furthermore the novel Mrs. Dalloway has been adapted into a form of movie, titled “The Hours”, but I make a comparison and contrast from Woolf to Dickinson in viewing the death is not only from Mrs. Dalloway, but also from other essays. Woolf seems to be depressed by the people around her until death is always to be waited by her. She hopes that death will come her soon, until she commits to suicide by sinking herself into a river.

Both Dickinson and Woolf are the women writers that have taken death as one of the themes in their works. Dickinson views the death as something that is inevitable and unstoppable not because her life problems, while Woolf views death as the thing that can bring her from depressed life. She always waits the coming of death although she knows it as something that is cruel and brutal. Woolf does not consider the death as something that is natural and inevitable and it is very different from Dickinson’s views. She wants to be part of human race and considers death as the right choice, for Dickinson, she thinks that death is not the end of everything. She believes that people will be immortal after they died.

To contrast two things that seem to be similar is not an easy way to do. We need to understand about the things to find the differences. Although Dickinson or Woolf are the women writers that is counted the author in the modern British literature period, but they have different point of views in facing the death. As the Christians, they consider death as something that is important. Their background of life makes them have the different point of views of death.

JAKARTA UNDERGROUND ON TELEVISION

The term of Jakarta underground connects to the activity of Jakarta people that is formal but run against the rules. The word “underground” itself means the deepest fold of the ground, but this word often connects to something that is hidden or something that is not to be too exposed.

Jakarta underground can be called as the way of life of Jakarta people that concerns with the night club or night party which nowadays it is not only exposed through mass media such as: newspapers, magazines and books but also broadcasts in television such as programs fenomena in Trans TV and Jakarta Underground in Lativi. These programs describe about the fascination of Jakarta and the other big cities in Indonesia. This kind of programs often tells about the dark side of clubbing world that is not a rare thing anymore in Jakarta.

Actually, I disagree with the programs that show about the clubbing or party in some of the big cities in Indonesia. I just think that for whom does this kind of program broadcast?. In addition, what is the useful by broadcasting this program, because it cannot be considered as the entertainment program, furthermore, there no sense of educational thought? This program is danger if watched by the children because it is too vulgar to be watched by them although it is broadcasted in the midnight. I am afraid that children will think about the world of clubbing as the thing that good to do and far from sin.

In my opinion, this program is not more than just an advertisement to promote the nightclub place because sometimes the broadcaster mentions the place of clubbing. The fact shows that the people who are usually going to party or hang out in the nightclub is the rich person so, If the program still broadcasted in the television, finally people will think that by doing party or clubbing it can raise their prestige which all of this will lead into moral degradation.

Clubbing has become a new trend in this modern era and badly has been in blood of the teenager. I admit that people need an entertainment, but if the entertainment is forward to negative thing, I think it is not a good choice. I disagree with this kind of program because I think it is useless. Is there not a good program that more educated?

Iseng ah nulis tentang ini. The Green Planet adalah blog pertamaku, cm sekarang lg sibuk bgt posting buat blog pertamaku itu. The Green Planet sebenernya berisi ttg fauna (itu intinya sih) tp dulu belum kepikir buat blog baru, jd campur aduk deh dengan tips komputer maupun data-data negara... Namanya juga posting iseng, jd gpp ya asal tulis aja... Lagian siapa yg minat baca tulisan ini klo blognya aja ga nyambung yg cerita ttg Photoshop Tutorial.

A New Vision

After I read To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf I get confused. Everything is not clear for me, who is said this, who is said that. My interest in the novel is about the Lily’s painting. At first I think that Lily’s painting is painted in real color, or that the colors in the painting are same with the real vision of Lily. After I and my group presenting about the Lily’s painting in the class, my imagination about the painting is changed. Not only by my friends, but also after I read the essays my vision is changed.

In the class my friends have a different about the painting. They think that the painting colors are darker than the reality. This is based by: “Lily, who work in blue and green” (symbolic pattern in To the Lighthouse, David Daiches, p. 71.). The essay also said that the color of the Lily’s painting is changed from the beginning of the novel, which is “bright violet and starring white” to the darker color in the middle of novel. The one of color of Lily painting, blue, has a symbolic meaning. The meaning, based on essay by David Daiches, is blue representing her characterization. Her character is an impersonal woman and artist.

The second essay given by the lecturer, Mr. and Mrs. Ramsay by Josephine O.S. is not helping me much to more understanding the Lily’s painting. Because, mainly the essay is talking about the characterization in the To the Lighthouse . The characters that talked in the essay are Mr. and Mrs. Ramsay and other character in the novel. This characterization helps me understanding more of Lily. The other topic talked by the essay is about the connection between three part of the novel, also help me to understanding the means of the novel.

Nowadays, there are many talent programs on television. You name it, AFI (Akademi Fantasi Indosiar), Indonesian Idol, KDI (Kontes Dangdut TPI), Cantik Indonesia, Indonesian Model, The Dream Band, and other similar programs on television have attract many heart of television viewers. All programs try to make the contestant as star, whether in singing, modeling, entertainment, etc. Now the contests have become a beneficial industry for the management rather than a way to create new talents in the world of entertainment.

Problems occur when the contestant become star before they ever win the contest. Another problem occurs when the managements of the program use the contestants for their own benefit, in another word, the management manipulates the contestants. The contestants have to appear only on the television in which they follow the contest for a certain period, is an example of the manipulation done by the management. The management has total control on the contestants. The management can tell when and where the contestants can appear and that is at the management television station. This means that the contestants cannot develop or continue their career in a larger scale. Since the contestants are made instantly, they will disappear instantly as well. Their appearance on only one television station will make them disappear faster.

The management has to give the contestants a freedom in their career so they can evolve into greater entertainer. A year or two in the television station is ok, but in between those years, performing in another television program will give new experience for the contestants. Then again, we all must remember the first, basic purpose of holding the programs, which is to give a chance for people to develop their talents.

Nowadays, we watch many programs on television that create stars in such a short time. The judgment system of all of the programs is almost the same, through the pooling of the audiences by SMS (Short Message Service) or premium call. Everyday we can see the daily life of the contestants. Even though it is good to see how people learn about something but the privacy of the contestant has been violated by broadcasting it nation wide. Television shows, a new life phenomenon, have created instant stars and have manipulated the life of the contestant, manipulated for the contestants have no more privacy and that their life is arranged by the judges or the producer of the program, they cannot do the life as they want but all is arranged.

Indonesian Idol, Kontes Dangdut TPI, Akademi Fantasi Indosiar, The Dream Band, and many other programs on television that are trying to create stars in the world of music. They, the contestant of the programs are quarantined and trained to be singers or musicians. They all learn and train to be singer. Their daily life is displayed through television, which is against the privacy of the individual.
Indonesian Model and Cantik Indonesia are other instant star programs that produce beautiful girls in modeling and talent contest. Here, the contestants are prepared to be a model or star in any line but for model especially. Daily we watch their life friendship and even fighting among the contestants. We watch joy and tears in their life, which they do not want it to be broadcasted especially for tears. API or Akademi Pelawak TPI is one fine example of the program that produces the star in entertainment. Still, here, we see the daily life of the contestants being displayed on television.

Penghuni Terakhir, from all the television programs above may best provide the example of how human life is played on television. Here, we watch how the penghuni terakhir fight for a house worth 1,5 billion Rupiah. Their daily life is displayed on national television (people need privacy and sometime people need to be alone). It is the best example how today, people’s life can be manipulated and showed nation wide through television programs.

These kinds of clothes, especially in Bandung are popular with the name “Cimall” it stands for Cibadak Mall, the first place where its stuffs are sold. Different with Bandung of the name Cimall, in Medan these kinds of clothes popular with Monza clothes that stands for Monginsidi Plaza.
The clothes from Cimall are brought from abroad, such as Japan, Korea and China. Formerly, the existence of Cimall in Bandung is very apprehensive, because the sellers do not have a certain place to sell it stuffs. Now, the sellers of cimall might be happy because they have been given a place by the government to sell their stuffs. Although has moved to the farther place, but many people still look for the places where the second hand clothes are sold.
Mr. Harry Suherlan, the director marketing of Bandung trade center said, ”Bandung people like branded clothes, but they want to buy it with the cheapest prize, that is why, the business of second hand clothes reign in Bandung.”

Pikiran Rakyat “many artists usually buy these second hand clothes for their performance in the stage. Some of them interest to buy many clothes such as a unique slay, boot shoes, leather jacket until furred-jacket or coat that gives sense of gothic. .

In our country, the biggest consumers of the import clothes are the young people, considering, in their ages, looks like to be different is the thing that is counted. Sometimes they are shy if someone knows where they but it stuffs. The shyness of the second hand clothes consumer is driven by the response from some societies who consider it as the obnoxious thing because of the unobvious source. In England, the style of the second hand clothes had ever been popular in the year 1980’s and 1990’s. Indie groups and college student wore its clothes such as t-shirt, sneaker, jumper and jacket.
